A W Murfin & Sons was incorporated in 2002 to form Antique Furniture Designs Limited.
A W Murfin & Sons was a family business founded by the late Arthur William Murfin. Arthur was a cabinetmaker of the old school serving his apprenticeship in the late 1930's and worked in the industry until establishing an antique furniture restoration business in 1970. In 1974 the international demand for skilfully restored English antique furniture required the business to expand and a partnership was formed between Arthur and his two sons Keith and Melvyn. The business continued restoring and selling fine furniture to international antique dealers until 1985 when the availability of commercial quantities of quality antiques necessitated change.
Having a vast experience of period design and construction methods it was a natural extension to the business to manufacture those pieces of original furniture that had become scarce or prohibitively expensive. Demand for A W Murfin & Sons manufactured products, and a steady decline in the availability of antiques, became so great that by 1990 restoration worked ceased and the whole of the business focused on manufacturing.
Over the next decade considerable investment was made in developing new "antique" designed products and installing up to date wood working machines that would enhance the traditional skills of the cabinet makers and retain the high quality expected in the products.
Today Antique Furniture Designs Limited have a manufacturing facility that gives total quality control. Every operation from the preparation of raw veneers through to polishing is completed in house. The careful integration of traditional and contemporary materials and manufacturing techniques combined with highly skilled craftsmanship ensures that we produce furniture that meets the demanding requirements of today's life style. We are successfully harnessing technology without compromise to quality or design.
